New season for Youth Club 2017/'18

A couple of changes will apply to the Youth Club meetings from September:
The Youth Club is for School Year 7s and above and there's a split between two age groups: Year 7s and Year 8s and above.
Year 7s will meet between 6.30pm and 7.30pm and Year 8s and above between 7.45pm and 9.00pm.

The club will continue to meet on alternate Fridays in KSM Village Hall unless you are informed otherwise. But please also watch out for news on the KSM website, and the Parish notice boards, in case there are changes of dates or venues. We will also email regular attendees of any changes.

Two youth workers will be provided for each session by Youth Unlimited from now on, funded by a grant from Somerset County Council's Youth & Community Service. We hope to build on the strong start made to date with the support of Youth Unlimited, SCC, Taunton School International Middle School (TSIMS) and local volunteers. If you feel you would like to support the Youth Club in any way please email

Following the launch of the Youth Club in February, we have had the fantastic news that our application for a Somerset Youth and Community Group Grant has been successful. We have been awarded an amazing £3,740 that will support the Youth Club for a further 6 months and will provide equipment for the club.

The Youth Club is for 11-17 year olds in the Broomfield, Cheddon and Kingston Parishes; including students from Taunton School International Middle School based at the Grange.
The Club will be run by Youth Unlimited CIC who are developing an exciting programme of events with input from youth club members. Movie & pizza nights; day trips and outdoor activities are among the things planned.

June 2016
As part of the work of producing a community-led plan for Kingston parish a lottery grant has been awarded to capture the views of the youth of our parish.
The starting point for this is the Pizza Evening at the Village Hall on 21st June for 10 to 18 year olds of the parish, being organised in conjunction with Somerset Youth & Community Service, to discuss and review the facilities provided, and swap their thoughts for (popular, well known) pizza.
Pizza night 21 June 2016
While the 2011 census shows a slightly above average population of 10-17 year an issue for the young of our parish is that they will attend one of eight secondary schools in the area, travelling independently or in small groups, and there is currently little or no organised group activity held in the parish where they might meet and socialise, should they wish to.

A youth representative sits on the community plan steering group and a working group has been set up which includes other youth representatives. We have been working with the Somerset Youth & Community Service to produce a Youth questionnaire to sit alongside the Household survey that has recently been distributed, in order to gain their views on the facilities available and activities organised for our young people.
The views of the village primary school children will also be captured.
The output from the questionnaires and the discussions will be incorporated within the community-led plan for Kingston to be delivered later in the year, with suggested actions.
